Raja*, a 36-year-old man from Solapur, now lives in Mankhurd, Mumbai, with his wife and three children. He studied up to the 4th standard and has always relied on daily work to support his family. For many years, he worked as an auto driver, managing basic needs. However, his life took a difficult turn when he lost his job, leaving the family without a stable income. Around the same time, his wife was also not working, and the household faced serious financial strain.
During this period, Raja became involved in a conflict in his neighbourhood while waiting in a queue to collect water. When he asked another man to follow the queue, the situation escalated into a physical fight. A complaint was filed, and Raja was arrested and sent to Thane Jail. This was a challenging time for him and his family, both emotionally and financially.
It was during this time that Raja came into contact with the Sahaara team at Thane Prison. The staff provided legal guidance, counselling, and support during his bail process, helping him return to his family. However, the struggle continued, and for nearly a year, the family faced ongoing financial hardship with no stable income.
Sahaara continued to support Raja after his release. Through counselling and regular guidance, he was encouraged to rebuild his life. With the organisation’s support, he started a small eggs-selling business, marking the first time he managed his own work. Sahaara also supported his children’s school fees, ensuring their education continued.
Raja’s wife also contributed by taking up housekeeping work, helping stabilise the family during difficult months. Over time, positive changes became visible. Raja became more responsible, his confidence improved, and he developed a more positive outlook towards his future.
Reflecting on his journey, Raja shared, “I sincerely thank Sahaara from my heart. Sahaara has played a very big role in changing my life.” His family also expressed their gratitude for the support received during their difficult time.
Today, Raja continues to run his small business and support his family. He hopes to grow as a responsible person and ensure a better future for his children.
