Aftercare Hostel
Udaan Aftercare Girls’ Hostel

Goal
Care leavers from children’s homes and hostels will have completed their education and have gainful employment thereby becoming independent and responsible citizens in society.
Limited community exposure, insufficient social skills training, and inconsistent access to career readiness programs make it difficult for many Care Leavers to navigate adulthood. Without a family-like environment or structured rehabilitation plans, their transition becomes complex. Once they turn 18, many lack the support system needed to thrive as independent adults.
A study has identified eight key areas for aftercare support: Housing, Emotional Well-being, Education, Career Preparation, Life Skills, Social Skills, Health Care, and Legal Support. Tailoring these areas to individual needs is crucial for successful reintegration into society.
Recognizing the need for aftercare, Sahaara launched the ‘Udaan’ project, an Aftercare Hostel designed to support Care Leavers, including those from Anandalay Hostel. Udaan offers a safe, structured environment where young women build skills and emotional resilience to transition into independent life. Through projects like Udaan, Care Leavers receive continued support to thrive beyond institutional care.
